The Prophet’s ﷺ Smile: The Power of Hilm

Date: Tuesday, November 11th, 2025

Time: 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM

Location: New Brunswick Islamic Center

Audience: Ages 5–11 w/ parents

What is Hilm? It means staying calm, patient, and strong even when others upset us.

Join us for an afternoon exploring The Prophet’s ﷺ Smile and the beautiful prophetic quality of Hilm: gentle strength and thoughtful patience.

Through stories, reflection, and creative activities, children and parents will learn how the Prophet ﷺ responded with kindness when faced with harshness, smiling instead of reacting, and showing patience instead of pride. His forbearance changed hearts and inspired love.

Younger and older children will take part in age-appropriate activities that match their level of understanding and creativity, so every child can learn, reflect, and connect in a meaningful way.

Building Knowledge, Character, and Skills for Every Child

Stories that Shape Hearts

Through differentiated instruction, children engage with the Seerah and Sunnah at their own level, gaining empathy, gratitude, and resilience.

Learning by Doing

We use experiential learning via storytelling, role-play, and creative activities in order to make Islamic knowledge joyful, practical, and lasting. Our goal is to enstill a deep love for the Prophet ﷺ within every child.

Skills for Life

Our approach blends social and emotional growth, Islamic values, and critical thinking, preparing children to thrive at home, school, and in the community.

About Us

Tabassum means "smile" in Arabic, and that is at the heart of everything we do. We are a children's Islamic learning initiative based in Central New Jersey, dedicated to nurturing both knowledge and character in young hearts.

Our programs combine the beauty of the Seerah, the wisdom of Islamic manners (akhlaq), and a unique approach we call Prophetic Emotional Learning. This method helps children build empathy, patience, gratitude, and resilience while staying connected to their faith.

Through storytelling, differentiated instruction, creative activities, and community-centered learning, Tabassum creates an environment where every child feels seen, valued, and inspired to grow. We aim to support families in raising children who carry the light of Islam with confidence, kindness, and joy.

Children learning under a tree

Our Curriculum

At Tabasum Kids, we believe that true education nurtures both the heart and the mind. Our curriculum is built on two interconnected streams:

01

Seerah Stories

Children explore the life of the Prophet ﷺ through storytelling, reflection, and creative activities. Each story highlights a key lesson or virtue, showing children how the Prophet's example can guide their own lives.

02

Tarbiyyah Traits

Alongside the Seerah, children learn about character and behavior. We focus on overcoming diseases of the heart such as anger, arrogance, and greed, while cultivating virtues such as patience, humility, gratitude, and generosity. Lessons also emphasize adab, respect, and everyday Sunnahs.

Every program follows a clear and engaging structure:

1

Story

A Seerah event or Prophetic teaching.

2

Reflection

Connecting the story to daily life.

3

Tarbiyyah Link

A virtue to practice or a harmful trait to avoid.

4

Activity

Crafts, role-play, or group projects.

5

Action Step

A small Sunnah or good deed for children to practice at home.

Workshops

Tabasum Kids offers standalone workshops which are focused on one powerful story or theme from the Seerah, giving children a deep and memorable learning experience.

Workshops are designed to be immersive, interactive, and practical. They are delivered in two formats:

1

One-day intensive

A single 2-hour session packed with storytelling, reflection, and hands-on activities.

2

Two-day format

Two 1.5 hr gatherings. Each day focuses on a different aspect of the story, with time for reflection and action.
